Our Community Services

We are proud to serve the children in our community and around the world.

The Kiwanis Club of Northern Columbus serves Clintonville, Beechwold and into Worthington. Our service area has the following boundaries: Interstate 270 on the North; Olentangy River on the West; Norfolk Southern/CSX railroad tracks on the East; Acadia Ave. on the South.

Key Club

The Northern Columbus Kiwanis Club sponsors a Key Club at Whetstone High School. Our members support Key Club service projects and facilitate the Key Club meetings. Students in the Key Club learn leadership skills and participate in numerous volunteer projects, including preparing meals for families at the Ronald McDonald House and volunteering at the Clintonville-Beechwold Community Resource Center.

College Scholarships

As one of our signature projects each year we offer scholarships worth $1000.00 each to seniors graduating from these local high schools: Whetstone, Thomas Worthington, Worthington Christian, Bishop Watterson and Linworth Alternative. If you are a student at another high school you may also be eligible. We welcome applications from students seeking higher education from a 4-year or 2-year college, or a vocational school.

Community Support Award

Each year Northern Columbus Kiwanis recognizes individuals who volunteer in our community. Our club is pleased to announce that this service award is sponsored by The Spotlight. The 2021 CSA nomination form is now available. Click here to learn about last year’s CSA winners.

Book Fair

Northern Kiwanis promotes literacy by holding a Book Fair at four local elementary schools. This event is usually held in early March around the time of Dr. Seuss’s birthday. The students select books to keep and the teachers select books for their classrooms. Kiwanis and Key Club members collect donated books for ages 5 – 12 throughout the year. Contact Us if you would like to donate books.

Easter Egg Hunt

The traditional Easter Egg Hunt began many years ago and retains its popularity. Kiwanis members arrive early the morning at Whetstone Park in Clintonville to scatter candy-filled Easter eggs in the fields. The kids line up eagerly awaiting the start of the event. Within minutes all the eggs have been found. To help raise funds coffee, hot chocolate and donuts are for sale. Everyone has a great time! And the Easter bunny is always a big hit.

Volunteer Opportunities

The efforts of Northern Columbus Kiwanis benefit the community in multiple ways. We are proud to step up and help other organizations, such as NNEMAP Food Pantry, Clintonville-Beechwold Resources Center or CRC, and the Ohio Special Olympics. There is no shortage of volunteer opportunities to help make our community a better place for the children and families.

Northern Kiwanis supports youth sports by sponsoring baseball and softball teams competing in the North Columbus Intramural League at Whetstone Park in Clintonville.

Northern Columbus Kiwanis supports youth athletics. Every year we sponsor either a boys baseball or a girls softball team. Games are played at Whetstone Park. The kids have fun. The fans cheer for the kids. It’s a great way to enjoy a summer evening.

Family Mentor Foundation

We pack nonperishable food in Buddy Boxes which are provided to 30 schools in Worthington, Columbus, and South-Western City School District which partner with the Family Mentor Foundation. The boxes of food are distributed to 1500 hungry kids each week to help feed them over the weekend.

Fundraisers

Our Kiwanis club raises funds all year long for Scholarships, the Easter egg hunt, Key Club sponsorship, and to help us support other worthy local causes. Fundraisers include Pancake Breakfasts, Fish Fry, donut sales, and a very popular raffle for two season tickets to OSU football games. Of course we always appreciate your generous donations so we can fulfill our mission of serving the children. Contact Us for more information, or click below to make a donation.
