There are a great Northern Columbus Kiwanis believes in supporting the community financially in addition to our volunteer work. Below is a list of other community organizations which we support financially.
Northern Kiwanis has also contributed financially to international projects. Two global campaigns in which Kiwanis International joined with UNICEF are:
Iodine Deficiency Disorders. Iodine is an element necessary for the proper functioning of the thyroid gland and is critical for development. Iodine deficiency may cause mental and cognitive difficulties and growth abnormalities. Beginning in 1994 the Kiwanis family has raised over $100M and joined forces with UNICEF to eliminate IDD by supporting salt iodization, community outreach and education. This program has benefitted millions of children in over 80 countries.
Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus. Over the last half century tetanus has taken the lives of millions of newborn babies and mothers in nearly 40 countries due to poverty and unsafe birthing practices. Since 2010 the Kiwanis family has raised over $100M and has join UNICEF in the ELIMINATE project to provide tetanus vaccinations and education. So far the project has resulted in the elimination of tetanus in 27 countries.
